Lawrence Kai – Accredited Spiritual Director & Life Coach
Are you seeking clarity, direction, or deeper intimacy with God? You’re not alone—and you don’t have to walk the path alone either. For over 15 years, it’s been my deepest joy and calling to accompany others in faith. Along the way, I’ve deepened in the spiritual, intellectual, and cultural riches of our Catholic tradition — especially the writings of the saints. I draw deeply from Ignatian and Carmelite spirituality, as well as Jungian psychology and The Hero’s Journey. My practitioner training as a Life Coach will also help you practically live out your call freely and intentionally.
What is spiritual direction?
Spiritual direction is a sacred, one-on-one conversation that helps a person become more aware of God’s presence and movement in their life. Spiritual direction recognises that the Holy Spirit is the true ‘director’, and that every session is a sacred encounter. It is confidential and grounded in mutual trust. In Spiritual direction we can:

How frequent is spiritual direction
I am happy to discuss with you about the frequency that spiritual direction takes place. This will depend on your own needs and mutual time availability. Typically, directees have requested sessions between three weeks to a month apart, but not more frequently than a fortnight. I adhere to the professional recommendation that each session runs for one hour only (though a little flexibility is of course allowed).

- Master of Theology (Catholic Theological College)
- Practitioner of Life Coaching (ICI)
- Bachelor of Ministry (UDiv)
- Certificate of Clinical Pastoral Education (AACPE)
- Theology of the Body Immersion 1+2 (TOB Institute)
- 9+ years of pastoral experience as a seminarian

I undertake the ministry of spiritual direction with utmost reverence and professionalism. You can expect:

- Openness to the use of story, art and creativity, in order to engage with matters of faith

What I expect of you as a directee
- Adequate preparation before each session, involving reflection on what you’d like to bring into each spiritual direction session
- A commitment to keep to meeting dates, and to maintain punctuality
- A sincere, courageous and honest openness to the mystery of God and yourself!
Does spiritual direction involve a fee?
Spiritual direction is a sacred and transformative journey, and I offer it with deep care and professionalism for each person I accompany. My rate is $110.00 per session (~$70 USD), which helps sustain this ministry and reflects the transformative value of the work done within it. Concessions may be available for students or those experiencing genuine financial limitations, and can be discussed individually.

Once we begin, it’s a good practice to have a short evaluation after our third session, so that we can both have the freedom to discern how the relationship is going. There is never any obligation to continue on in Spiritual Direction, with any director!
While in person sessions are always preferable, I’m also able to conduct sessions online.
